Senior Data Engineer, Dublin, Hybrid

Want to own the data platform, not just keep it running? Our client is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and scale its data platform across Google Cloud and Microsoft Fabric.

The role
You’ll be the go-to engineer for how data moves through the business. You’ll build reliable batch and streaming pipelines across GCP and Fabric, shape the data model behind reporting and analytics, and set the engineering standards the rest of the team follows. You’ll work closely with analysts, data scientists, BI developers and product teams, and help mentor less experienced engineers.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines on GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage)
  • Build and manage Microsoft Fabric workloads: Lakehouses, Warehouses, OneLake, Data Factory pipelines and Spark notebooks
  • Integrate data between GCP and Fabric so analytics and Power BI reporting run smoothly
  • Orchestrate workflows with Cloud Composer (Airflow) and Fabric Data Factory
  • Model and optimise data for performance and cost, including medallion (bronze/silver/gold) architectures
  • Put in place data quality checks, monitoring, governance and alerting
  • Manage infrastructure as code and CI/CD for data workloads
  • Review code and support other engineers’ growth

What you’ll need

  • Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer
  • Hands-on experience with GCP data services, especially BigQuery
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, or strong Azure data experience (Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks) and the ability to move quickly into Fabric
  • Advanced SQL, plus strong Python and/or PySpark
  • Solid grounding in data modelling, lakehouse design and ETL/ELT
  • Clear communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues

Nice to have

  • Google Professional Data Engineer and/or Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) certification
  • Power BI and semantic model experience
  • dbt, Terraform, Git-based CI/CD
  • Experience with real-time or event-driven architectures
